Why Off-the-Shelf Landscape Plans Tend to Fall Apart
A landscape plan can look sharp in a rendering and still fall apart within a season once it's actually on the ground, because it was never built around the property it landed on. Sun-shy plants stuck in open exposure, thirsty varieties dropped into fast-draining soil, bed outlines that have nothing to do with how anyone actually crosses the yard. Our approach to landscape design in Algonac, MI starts with a genuine read of your property instead of pulling a shape from a catalog.
We track how sunlight shifts across the yard through the day, watch where water goes after a storm, check what the soil is actually made of, and note any established plants worth keeping around. Everything downstream, plant placement, bed shape, where hardscape features like edging or paths should go, gets built from that groundwork.
Planning Around How You Actually Use the Yard
A good design also has to reflect how the yard gets lived in, not just how it photographs from the curb. Where does foot traffic naturally cut through. Where do kids or pets tend to run. Where do you want a screen from the neighbors, and where do you actually want the view left open. Those answers guide bed placement and plant height every bit as much as looks do.
Once the layout is set, we choose plant varieties suited to Algonac, MI's climate along with the light and soil conditions specific to your property, favoring choices that will still look deliberate a few years down the road rather than ones picked purely for a quick first impression.
